Just as we are always breathing while we are alive, so are feelings/sensations (Vedana). Vedana is conditioned phenomena. In the five aggregates, matter, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness arise simultaneously, conditioned. With matter (rupa) as the condition, the four mental formations (nama) arise simultaneously. We perceive through the mental phenomenon of feeling/sensation.
The feeling/sensation arises and disappear immediately, does not stay. One moment, the feeling arises and disappears, and another moment, it arises and disappears again.
Through the concept of time and space, we think of it as a feeling, and we crave for the feeling and believe that the aggregate of feeling (vedana-khanda) is the ‘self’. However, feeling/sensation is constantly changing (Anicca). The mind and mental phenomena arise one after another every moment and disappear very quickly.
The aggregate of saññā-khanda, which is revealed as one’s karma (sankhara-khanda), creates feelings such as likes and dislikes by discriminating about objects.
If you can see with the wisdom insight of Vipassana, if you can be aware of the feeling that arises as it is, you will know that it is mentality (nama) and that it is just a mental phenomenon, which is non-self (anatta).
