In last letters, we talked about how our habits and tendencies are formed through ‘awareness’ and karma/kamma is formed. This karma becomes a very important factor in determining our next life at the end of our life.
In the Gati Sutta (A9:68), the Buddha said,
“Bhikkhus, there are five-character traits (gati). Which five? They belong to hell, the animal realm, the realm of hungry ghosts, the realm of humans, and the realm of gods. To eliminate these five types of habits/tendencies (gati), we must cultivate the four types of mindfulness (Satipaṭṭhānā).”
He stated that there are five main types of habits/tendencies (gati).
There is a direct connection between the three realms mentioned in Dhamma Letter No. 34-35 and the 31 worlds; The Dhamma on the entire kamma is in more detail in the previous letters No. 33-38.
First, among the three realms of the worlds of desire, form, and formlessness, we live in the world of desire. The world of desire has four evil places below humans, and six levels of heavenly worlds above humans. Each of the four evil places below has its own characteristics, and each of the six heavenly places also has its own characteristics. Just as the United States is an immigrant country where various people of races and countries live together, beings in each realm of the human world are born and live in a certain time and space according to certain conditions. Therefore, each human being lives in this life and determines the next life based on the habits they have formed in the past, that is, karma/kamma.
Therefore, it is necessary to reorganize the ‘perception’ that we create about a certain object in a healthy direction. That is why we consider Sati (mindfulness) important and practice it.
We should not be greedy/craving for things we like (Lobha/Raga), reject or get angry for things we dislike (Dosa), or be jealous or stingy. We should always develop kindness and generosity (Metta).
May a good heart be developed through right mindfulness (Samma-Sati), right effort (Samma-Vayama), and moderation!
May you develop the wisdom insight through Vipassana!
