‘Recognition (saññā)’ perceives an object and remembers it. Based on what was formed and stored before, it remembers new things according to its own conditions. This is how the name of ‘self’ was formed. Countless moments of ‘awareness’ have occurred in succession and are occurring now.
However, this is not the self.
It is a phenomenon in which the five aggregates of form, feeling, perception, volition and consciousness work together. There is only a moment when many other perceptions play their role, which stays for a moment and then disappears. However, we become attached to that perception and consider it as ‘self’.
Due to this ‘recognition (saññā)’, we remember past experiences, concepts and their names, and recognize people and things.
The moments of awareness can also become the objects of mindfulness. We must know that it is not a real self, but a mentality (Nama) that arises due to conditions. When we know the reality in this way, we can end attachment, remove all the defilements of the mind, and the conditions for rebirth no longer remain.
If you maintain awareness with right mindfulness (Samma-Sati) and right thinking (Samma-Sankappa), you will have right views (Samma-Ditthi), and you will not be attached to any object. That state is called Nibbana, and it is the result of ultimate happiness. This is an important condition for taking care of the mind.
May a good heart be developed through right mindfulness (Samma-Sati), right effort (Samma-Vayama), and moderation!
May you develop the wisdom insight through Vipassana!
