Mind and Mind factors (Citta and Cetasika) 22: Cetanā (Volition) 1

Here, intention (cetana) is not limited to general intention when speaking universally. It is a super-worldly mind factor that includes intentions for all body, speech, mind, and actions in living life, and it contains a vast meaning, including the mind factors of the moment of death and the moment of continuing on to the next life.
Intention, which is a mind factor, is also one of the mental elements that always occur, like the sensory contact, feeling, and perception that we studied earlier.
You should know that there is always intention when you see or hear something, or even when you sleep. Even this breath that you are breathing has intention. There is no moment without intention as long as you are alive.
The characteristic of intention is to adjust the mind and mind factors that arise due to an object. And its role is to try to do something.
When a wholesome or unwholesome mind arises, intention plays the role of ‘creating karma’ in doing good (kusala) or evil (akusala). When intention begins to play a role for an object, other accompanying mental elements also play their own roles. At this time, the intention takes on the role of leader, and it is involved in a series of processes that other mind factors follow to perform their roles, requiring double the strength and double the effort. This is because it not only plays the role of leader itself but also leads to the performance of each mind factor's role through intention.
