Beneficial actions include in meditation, such as listening to and studying the Dhamma, teaching the Dhamma, practicing tranquility, and developing right insight, namely Samatha meditation and Vipassana meditation. Vipassana meditation, which cultivates right insight, is the most excellent of the beneficial actions because it eliminates delusion and develops wisdom. Therefore, the actions of giving or practicing the Dhamma are of incalculable merit.
If you practice mindfulness right now without missing it, that will become the condition for practicing mindfulness again later. All habits accumulate and create karma. That becomes the resultant.
If greed accumulates infinitely, the accumulated habits become the conditions for greed to arise again, and you cannot help but become attached. If you create anger or dislike, those accumulate and create habits, and you will receive the result as a resultant of karma.
Therefore, you should increase the time you spend mindful at this moment and every moment. The difficulty will gradually decrease and a routine of practice will be created.
There is a saying, “When there is no mindfulness, the mind is in an unwholesome state, and when there is mindfulness, the mind is in a wholesome state.”
If you keep mindfulness, it becomes a condition for generating positivity and right mindfulness, and when there is no mindfulness, your habitual karma comes into play. Since this is rooted in foolishness, you cannot even predict what will happen. This is because foolishness constantly produces cravings or aversions. This cannot lead you to the path of happiness.
You should practice mindfulness based on giving and precepts so that you can bear good fruit in this life and in the next life.
To be continued…
May a good heart be developed through right awareness (Samma-Sati), right effort (Samma-Vayama), and moderation!
May you develop the wisdom insight through Vipassana!
