Mind and Mind factors (Citta and Cetasika) 34: Jivitindriya (life faculty) 생명기능 2

Jivitindriya (life faculty), one of the mind factors, plays a role in sustaining the mind and the mind factors at every moment. Therefore, it must arise with all the minds to sustain life. It maintains the mind and the mind factors that accompany it.
There are only four ultimate realities (paramattha) that we observe: mind, mind factors, matter, and nirvana.
This vital function (Jivitindriya), which plays a role in giving life to the mentality (the mind and the mind factors), is also nama (mentality).
The material, rupa, also has a vital function (Jivitindriya). The vital function of matter is a material created from kamma. It sustains the life of other materials that arise together.
Materials arise in groups and disappear together. They are divided into four groups:
Those created from karma (kamma)
Those created from mind (citta)
Those created from nutrients (ahara)
Those created from temperature (utu)
Here, the vital function (Jivitindriya) is only a part of the group and is a material created from kamma. It sustains the life of the materials that accompany it and disappears together.
For this reason, when we practice Vipassana, we focus our observation solely on nama rupa (mentality and material). As you continue to observe, you will be able to see into the more subtle states of Nama and Rupā.
Concentrate on yourself at every moment. Observe the phenomena occurring in your body and mind (nama rupa) .
To be continued…
May a good heart be developed through right awareness (Samma-Sati), right effort (Samma-Vayama), and moderation!
May you develop the wisdom insight through Vipassana!
