Mind and Mind factors (Citta and Cetasika) 38: Manasikara (attention) 마음에 잡도리함 2

‘Manasikara (attention)’ plays a role in focusing on the object that appears through the six doors and grouping the associated mental factors and transmitting them to one object.
When eye consciousness arises, the associated mental factors are grouped and transmitted to the object called ‘form’. Eye consciousness and Manasikara here are the mind and mental factors of the resultant. The same principle can be seen in the consciousnesses of the five gates, and manasikhara respectively.
In the previous practice of samadhi (samatha) through concentration, Manasikara also groups the mind and associated mental factors and sends them to the subject of meditation (breathing, etc.) and controls them. The deeper the samadhi becomes, the more calm and subtle the mind and Manasikara perform their role.
When cultivating insight through Vipassana, we also pay ‘attention’ to the subject of mindfulness, Nama Rupā (mind and matter). Manasikara groups the mind and other mental factors and transmits them to the subject of meditation, Nama Rupā.
If the object of the mind and the mind factor is ‘Nirvana’, then Manasikara, which is accompanied by the supra-worldly mind, becomes the supra-worldly mind factor with very calm and pure attention. It binds the mind factors associated with it and transmits them to Nirvana.
Manasikara is also just a ‘conditioned dhamma (object)’. It is not a ‘self (Anatta)’ that pays attention to the object , but is conditioned by the mind and other mind factors. They arise together and disappear together. They change at every moment (Anicca).
May a good heart be developed through right awareness (Samma-Sati), right effort (Samma-Vayama), and moderation!
May you develop the wisdom insight through Vipassana!
