In the previous Dhammar letter No. 35, there was a brief discussion on the classification of the three realms in the Buddhist view of the universe.
The three realms and the types of mind according to each of the 31 realms are introduced as a total of 89.
This week, we will learn about the types of mind that can occur in the desire realm.
There are a total of 54 types of mind in the desire realm.
It is broadly divided into the state of having or not having a root of mind, and is classified as a mind that lives in the desire realm but has a beautiful mind.
Among the types of mind with roots, the types of mind that arise unwholesomely are the minds created by the three defilements of Loba (craving), Dosa (aversion), and Moha (delusion). Let us first briefly summarize the minds that we must eliminate through Vipassana insight meditation, that is, the minds that make our minds uncomfortable and cause suffering.
54 Consciousness Pertaining to the Sensuous Sphere (Kāmāvacara-cittāni)
Unwholesome Mind (Akusala Cittāni) – 12 Unwholesome mind
Mind rooted in greed (lobhamūla-cittāni) – 8 consciousness are rooted in Attachment
Mind rooted in anger (dosamūla –cittāni) – 2 consciousness Rooted in aversion
Mind rooted in delusion (mohamūla-cittāni) – 2 consciousness are rooted in sheer Ignorance
What type of mind are you currently generating?
And what conditions are causing that mind?
What is the cause of that mind? What is the root of the cause?
Can you notice that the mind has disappeared?
What caused the mind to change or disappear?
You must be aware of your own mind and always be upright so that not only yourself but also everyone can produce wholesome results. If you have the habit of producing good thoughts, good karma will accumulate and become a good cause, which will produce good results in the future. This is the law of nature. This can be called Dhamma. (Refer to ‘Karma and Rebirth’: Dhamma Letter No. 33 ~ No. 39)
To be continued…
May a good heart be developed through right awareness (Samma-Sati), right effort (Samma-Vayama), and moderation!
May you develop the wisdom insight through Vipassana!
